Bought Gromov's "A Chance for the Dinosaur" on LitRes and read it on my Sony Reader. It's about Earthlings who end up on a medieval planet and try to change the course of its history from an Earthly "Western" type to an "Eastern" one, whatever that means.
There's less depth in the book than Gromov usually delivers, but more entertainment. Sometimes it's nice to see details about medieval realities, the names of all sorts of tricky gadgets and the like, if it's organically woven into the story and doesn't look like a thinly veiled reference book.
I liked the book. If you want to relax and not overthink complex matters, it's worth a read. Although the parts dealing with human relationships and heartfelt dialogues sometimes come out clunky and unconvincing with Gromov. In "A Chance" this applies to the conversation between Otto and Barini in the flier, when they are flying to the gold mine. But I liked the ending, and a good ending is hard to write. True, the author skips forward in time by several years at once in places. It's clear that this is intentional , but somehow you get the feeling he was trying to hand the book in on time, and didn't flesh things out enough in places.
